Joe Bubar or Sean Green?
Happy Easter, no wait... I mean ressurrection... I mean...
I shook hundreds of hands yesterday smiling and welcoming them to our Easter Church Services. Most of the people were friendly and some, I felt were greeting and ministering to me. There were others, the odd few, who rebuffed my “Happy Easter!” with a “you mean resurrection Sunday.” To which I would smile and say, “right...?” Still others offered me their fish like hands, and in response to my, heartfelt, “good morning” robotically replied, “He-is-ris-en.” I found out later that I was supposed to counter with, “He is risen indeed.” This all seems so annoyingly contrived.
Yes, He has risen. Praise God! This is great news and deserves much reflection and thanksgiving. However, It is odd to me that this phrase is uttered unenthusiastically to church greeters with name badges clearly identifying them as people who most likely know that He has risen. Many others who were not at church Sunday morning that would probably benefit from any kind of enthusiastic conversation regarding our risen Lord.
Seriously, what benefit is there to correct a good heart-felt “Happy Easter!” Is there really concern that the world is confused about the difference between egg-hiding bunnies and the claims of the Christian testimony regarding Jesus Christ?
So Happy Ressurection Easter Sunday Indeed!
